For those anticipating the opening of the Chick-Fil-A in Cicero (the first in CNY), the target grand opening date has been announced as February 22, 2018. Construction is currently being finalized at the restaurant at 7932 Brewerton Road (in front of Home Depot).
When a Chick-fil-A opens a new restaurant, typically the first 100 customers get a free meal every week for a year. Szatowski plans a different spin on that – the first 100 people who register to perform a day of service in the community with him and his family will earn the free meal every week for a year. Registration will likely take place the day before the restaurant opens, but specifics will be announced as the opening approaches.
UPDATE: At 6 a.m. Feb. 21, the first 100 people in line at the restaurant who live in zip codes from around Central New York will be chosen for the free meals. Those chosen also are required to participate in a day of community service to qualify for the free meals.

Along with Burlington Coat Factory, the Erie Canal Centre shopping plaza in DeWitt is set to add a Michaels location. According to Brixmor Property Group, which owns and operates the plaza, Dicks Sporting Goods will be joined by Burlington at the end of 2017 and Michaels in early 2018.
Michaels has three current locations in the Syracuse area, with the one on Erie Blvd. being located less than 2 miles from the proposed location. However, it is likely that the current Erie Blvd. location would close and move into the Erie Canal Centre shopping plaza.

DineEquity, the parent company of Applebee’s and IHOP, has recently announced plans to close up to 160 restaurant locations before the end of 2017. This is due to poor second quarter sales in 2017, along with the continued decrease in popularity of casual-dining restaurants.
USA Today notes that Applebee’s will close 105 to 136 restaurants, while IHOP is expected to close up to 25 locations.
The exact locations that will be closing and closing dates have not yet been released. According to NBC, franchisee profitability, operational results and brand quality standards will be taken into consideration.
Tom and Chee will no longer be moving into the space next to DiBella’s on Bridge Street in Dewitt. This is due to a lawsuit between the building owner and franchise owner (which has been recently dropped).
Instead, Flawless Image, will be taking over this space later in August. Flawless Image is a medical aesthetics company, specializing in body contouring, liposuction, and other services.
